In In eXpress, there are two ways of associating mission phases with failure effects—”Failures by Mission Phase” and “Severity by Mission Phase”. This second approach has two options, giving us three usage cases:
Failures by Mission Phase
Each object failure effect can be associated with one or more mission phases
For design and intermediate effects, the associated mission phases are derived from their object effect causes
Causes, severity & compensating provisions will apply only to the specified phases
For failures to have different characteristics in different phases, separate failure effects must be defined for each phase
Severity by Mission Phase (default)
Each failure effect is associated with all mission phases
Different severities can be defined for each phase
Severity & Compensating Provisions by Mission Phase
Each failure effect is associated with all mission phases
Different severities & compensating provisions can be defined for each phase
Next, call up the Failure Effect Options dialog by clicking on the icon on the Severity tab of the Failure Effects panel or byselecting “Failure Effect Options…” from the Failure Effects section of the main Design menu as shown at left.
Use this dialog (depicted below to specify the way you want to use mission phases: “Failures by Mission Phase” or “Severity by Mission Phase”.
