Ports Overview

Feature Description

What are Ports?

Ports represent input and output points of an object. Types of Ports defines the directional flow of information (data, signals, voltage, temperature, hydraulic pressure, atmospheric pressure, Analyst input, etc.) through that port. When a port does not participate in the functionality of a design (e.g., a spare pin on an integrated circuit package), it can be marked as unused (this may result in an unused function at that port).

Ports have the same relationship with objects that I/O flags have with an entire design. In fact, when an assembly is linked to a design file, the ports on the upper-level assembly must correspond to the I/O flags in the lower-level design.
