Relative Failure Probability - The relative likelihood that a specified item, output function or failure mode has failed, given that a failure has occurred. The relative failure probability is calculated by dividing the adjusted failure rate associated with the specified item, function or failure mode by the total failure rate of the system.

The relative failure probability associated with a given element (item, function or failure mode) can be calculated using the following equation:

where

elementx
=
the element (item, output function or failure mode) for which the relative failure probability is to be calculated
N
=
the total number of elements
FRx
=
the adjusted failure rate associated with elementx
FRi
=
the adjusted failure rate associated with the ith element
