Port Auto Connect Examples

Feature Description

The following examples demonstrate different applications of the Auto-Connect Operation.

Example 1: Connecting a set of ports with matching names (e.g., "GND"):

Method: Selected Ports with Matching Abbreviation.

If you wish to only connect ports with a specific name, (such as "GND") use the Only Connect Ports that start with filter.

Example 2: Combining a set of similarly-named ports (e.g., "DATA_01"):

Method: Selected Ports with Matching Abbreviation.

Select "Match Beginning of Abbr.", setting the number of characters to 4. You may wish to enter "Data" in the Only Connect Ports that start with filter or use the Only Connect Ports within specified distance filter to prevent widely separated ports from being mis-connected.

Example 3: Connecting (in sequence) a set of passive objects with unnamed ports:

Method: Selected Ports on Adjacent Objects.

You may wish to use the Only Connect Ports within specified distance filter to prevent widely separated ports from being mis-connected.

Example 4: Connecting a set of parallel ports:

Method: Selected Ports on Adjacent Objects.

Rather than using a filter, it is often easiest to select the specific ports to be connected (using the "lasso" method, for instance).

Example 5: Connecting unnamed ports in non-adjacent areas of the design:

Method: All Selected Ports (Single Net).

Select the ports to be connected prior to invoking the Auto-Connect operation.

Example 6: Creating I/O Flags for all ports not already connected to a net

Method: Create I/O Flags and Connect to Selected Ports.

Since only un-connected ports will be affected by this operation, the quickest method would be to select all ports in the design prior to invoking this operation.
For this example, the "Group all new Flags at Right" option was selected.

Example 7: Creating I/O Flags for a series of ports

Method: Create I/O Flags and Connect to Selected Ports.

When the "Align new Flags with Ports" option is selected, the new I/O flags will be lined up with the ports to which they are connected. In some cases, this can lead to overlapping I/O flags.
