Function Propagation refers to the technique by which eXpress maintains visibility of functions throughout a path. One oftwo methods are available for propagating functions through a design.
Whenever a change is made to the functional design, functions are automatically re-propagated downstream from the changes. When functions are re-propagated, existing net functions are replaced by newly-generated functions and existing input filters may become out-of-date (output functions are not modified by function propagation). Also, when changes are made to a lower-level design file, functions in the upper-level models may be re-propagated downstream from the modified assembly.
