Creating Output Functions

Feature Description

Although an output function is created automatically for every output or bidirectional port, it is often desirable to create additional functions. For a discussion of when it might be useful to create additional functions, see the discussions on "Multiple Output Functions on a Single Port" and "Functions Observable at Multiple Ports".

Before output functions can be created, the Analyst must first disable automatic functions for the associated port (for a discussion of the consequences of this, please refer to the topic "Automatic Function Generation").

How To Create Output Functions

1
Select the port for which the function is to be created (the port must be either an output or bidirectional port ).
2
Choose the Output Functions  tab within the context panels.
3
If it is not already disabled, turn off automatic function generation by disabling the "Automatic" checkbox on the Output Functions panel.
4
On the Output Functions panel, enter the name of the new function into the blank field marked by a green asterisk.

Note: Output functions are the only type of function that can be explicitly created by the Analyst (there is always a single input function defined on each object input and net functions are created and removed automatically by the eXpress software).
