Functional Precedence retains the ratios between functional probabilities (based on functional reliability data defined at different levels of the design hierarchy) and uses a proprietary routine to adjust the failure mode probabilities so that they correlate to the probabilities of their affected functions. Although, in this approach, failure mode reliability data is taken into consideration as the failure mode probabilities are adjusted, the functional reliability data takes precedence.
