Use the “Severity by Mission Phase” checkbox Showing Mission Phases in FMECA when the only thing that differs for each of the mission phases associated with a given failure effect is the severity of the failure. With this approach, the cell in the Severity Class column is broken up into separate sections, based on the mission phases associated with that failure.
The mission phases and severities can be listed vertically in a two-column format (see example at right) or horizontally, with a separate column for each phase (see example below).
To define the mission phases for a given design, simply create a checklist attribute called “MissionPhases” (without the space) and associate that attribute only with failure effects. Create a separate entry in the checklist for each mission phase, assigning each a unique Test limit (which will, among other things, determine the order in which the phases are alphabetically sorted in the FMECA).
When using “Severity by Mission Phase”, a single dropbox allows you to assign different severities to the various mission phases associated with each failure effect.
