When creating coverage-based tests, the Analyst begins by specifying the objects containing the output functions and/or failure modes to be covered by that test. For signature tests,eXpress then lists the possible measurement locations for the test (the output flags that are downstream from all elements in the coverage). The Analyst selectspossible test locations and settings to control interference so that it accurately represents the diagnostic conclusions that can be drawn when that test passes and fails.
How To Create Coverage-Based Tests
1
If necessary, create a test set to contain the new tests. Double-click on the destination test set to enter the Test Set Editing Mode
2
In the main design window, highlight the objects to be covered by the test(s).
(Note: an undefined (placeholder) test definition can be created by skipping this step.)
Select the desired options on the Create New Signature Test(s) or Create New Inspection Test(s) dialog and click on the "OK" button.
Once the test has been created, the Analyst can modify the test coverage:
toggling between functional and failure mode coverage
excluding specific output functions or failure modes from the coverage
For Signature tests, the Analyst must select the location(s) at which the test can be performed (Signature tests with no selected test locations are considered to be undefined—the eXpress Error Checker will generate an error message indicating this).
