Hierarchical Expansion - refers to the settings on the Hierarchy panel in an eXpress study that are used to specify the level(s) of indenture for that study. In the case of a FMECA Study, the hierarchical expansion defines the level(s) of the hierarchical design for which failures are to be represented as line items in the FMECA chart. In a Diagnostic Study, the hierarchical expansion specifies the maintenance level—that is, the design level(s) for which all components and assemblies will be treated as replacement items in the generated diagnostics.
