In the Fault Isolation Report, all Isolation Cost and Time Statistics are listed in a section titled either "Cost/Time to Diagnose a Primary Failure using Multiple Failure Isolation" or "Cost/Time to Diagnose a Primary Failure using Common Cause Isolation" (depending on whetherFault Isolationhas been calculated using a Diagnostic Algorithm that employs Isolation Algorithms or Common Cause inference). This section contains metrics that describe the cost and time burden associated with isolating a failure and/or replacing the items in the isolated fault group.
Some of the metrics that appear in this section are versions of standard Maintainability metrics that have been simplified so that they can provide effective feedback during earlier phases of the design process, thereby allowing the analyst to estimate the impact that changes to a diagnostic design would have upon system Maintainability.
