Design states can be moved to the clipboard using the Cut operation. When cut, the design state is removed from the design, but a copy is left on the clipboard.
How To Cut Design States

Begin by highlighting the design state(s) to be cut in the Explorer Tree.

Choose "Cut" from the Edit menu.
Alternative 1: Use the Cut icon on the Standard toolbar.
Alternative 2: Right-click on one of the highlighted design states and select "Cut"
