Handling of Special Characters

When exporting topology to a spreadsheet, it must be remembered that there are four characters that, when they appear at the beginning of a cell value, are treated as formatting characters by Microsoft Excel:

Symbol
Interpretation within Excel
apostrophe (')
left-justify
circumflex (^)
center
quotation mark (")
right-justify
backslash (\)
full-justify

When a cell's contents begins with one of these characters, the eXpress eXpress Model topology export will automatically prepend an apostrophe so that Microsoft Excel does not confuse this character with a spreadsheet formatting code. The apostrophe will be ignored when data is imported from the spreadsheet using the eXpress Spreadsheet Topology Import.
