Naming & Renaming Object States

Feature Description

Object state names are initially entered using the grid on the States panel and can later be renamed using either this panel or from within Grid View. Although there are no naming restrictions for object states (they can be named anything), it is best not to include the name of the object in the state name, since eXpress includes the object name whenever a state is referenced in the Analyst interface or in reports. The name of the object state therefore only needs to be meaningful within the context of the object. Although object states need not be uniquely named (eXpress will not confuse states that have the same name), the Analyst should avoid using the same name for multiple states defined on the same object (otherwise, it will be difficult for the Analyst to distinguish between these states). States defined on different objects, however, can be given the same name without worry.
