Net Editing Mode

Feature Description

The Net Editing Mode is a special editing mode that allows Analysts to quickly view, create and modify net connections. This editing mode can also be used to join existing nets together to form a single net.

How To Edit Exiting Nets Using the Net Editing Mode

1
Double-click on the net to be edited in the main design window or the Explorer Tree. This will invoke the Net Editing Mode.

Alternative: First invoke the All Nets Editing Mode (by clicking on the Net Editing icon on the Design Editing toolbar, for example), then invoke the Net Editing Mode by double-clicking on the net name in the Exporer tree or clicking on the net in the main design window.
2
Attach or detach ports to the selected net as necessary (or join together multiple existing nets)
3
When finished editing the net, return to the Standard Editing Mode by clicking on the Design header of the Explorer Tree, selecting "Standard Editing" from the Editing Modes submenu within the Design menu, or clicking on the Standard Editing icon on the Design Editing toolbar.

Alternative: If another net is to be edited, the Analyst may wish to exit Net Editing mode directly into the All Nets Editing Mode by clicking on the background in the main design window or (if Net Editing Mode was invoked via the All Nets Editing Mode) clicking on the "All Nets" header of the Explorer Tree.

Using the Net Editing Mode

When the Net Editing Mode is invoked for a given net, the main design window is updated so that the selected net and all objects connected to that net are colored green; all other nets and objects are colored gray. Furthermore, all annotations are hidden (since nets cannot be connected to annotations). As the mouse pointer is moved over different objects in this window, the ports on that object will display. Port connections can be added to or subtracted from the current net by clicking on the ports in this mode (for ports that are already connected to another net, the Analyst must first detach the port from the other net before connecting it to the selected net).In Net Editing Mode, the Explorer Tree is also rebuilt to contain a list of all ports that are connected to the selected net.

In Net Editing Mode, many of the operations that are available in Standard Editing Mode have been disabled. For example, objects can neither be moved nor deleted in this mode.
