In the eXpresseXpress Model topology export format, the Symbol column contains the description assigned to the symbol used for the corresponding object in the Object, I/O Flag or Annotation column. Although, when Exported from eXpress, this field contains the internal library name for the symbol, the Analyst can alternatively list the symbol descriptions in this column (i.e., the names that pop-up when examining a symbol in the symbol library). Preceding each symbol description is an optional prefix that provides additional information about that symbol using the following special characters:
tilde (~) -- flip the symbol horizontally
bang (!) -- flip the symbol vertically
at-sign (@) -- rotate the symbol
circumflex (^) -- flag provides I/O only within current level design, or keep annotation in background
ampersand (&) -- multiple-output I/O flag
In the example below, the Symbol column appears as column E. According to the prefixes in this column, the AirFilter is both flipped and rotated (cells E2::E4). The I/O flag named "Recycled Input" (row 10) is marked as being local to the current design level (and it is rotated), whereas the I/O flag named "STEAM" (row 11) provides multiple-output information to the next level up (as well as being flipped horizontally).
