Disable/Enable Centering

of Selected Elements check

1. Disable/Enable Centering
of Selected Elements check
When this feature is disabled, design elements selected using the Explorer Tree, a report hotlink, or the Error Checker  will be highlighted—but not centered—in the design window. This will not only facilitate the editing of large designs, but may also be useful when editing smaller models.

Disable/Enable Full

Design Redrawing check

2. Disable/Enable Full
Design Redrawing check

When, with this feature disabled, you select and deselect objects or ports, only those objects that are being highlighted or de-highlighted are redrawn in the design window. Since they fall outside the boundary of the object, the corner “handles” are not displayed when an object is highlighted. (Note: this can make things a little tricky when selecting one or more  objects with no ports, since you can’t see what’s highlighted. For large systems, however, the benefits of disabling this feature should outweigh this small drawback.)

Now, when you select an object that is placed behind another object, the selected object will be displayed on top until full  design redrawing is enabled (or until you make a change that forces a full redraw). You can force eXpress to redraw everything by clicking on the background of the design window (to quickly deselect everything, click on the background of the Explorer tree).

Disable/Enable Complete

Explorer Tree Updating check

3. Disable/Enable Complete
Explorer Tree Updating check
When this feature is disabled, only the main entry in the Explorer tree is updated when an object, port or net is  selected/deselected or when ports are added, removed or modified.

Also, when this feature is disabled, the Explorer tree is not updated when you exit the Test editing mode.  Although this can really improve editing efficiency within large design files, you must remember that
newly-added tests will not appear in the main tree until the next complete update.

Suspend/Resume Name-

Related Updates check

4. Suspend/Resume Name-
Related Updates check
When name-related updates are suspended, you can quickly rename objects and ports without having to wait for eXpress to update output function and net function names. This feature was available in previous versions of eXpress, but could only be toggled on and off using the Ctrl- Shift-F5 key combination (now, it can only be accessed using the new toolbar).

Suspend/Resume

Functional Propagation check

5. Suspend/Resume
Functional Propagation check
When functional propagation is suspended, you can add/remove objects, ports and nets, change port flow direction and edit dependencies without having to wait for eXpress to create or update net functions. This can greatly reduce wait time when editing large designs. It is important, however, that you re-enable this feature prior to viewing or editing test coverage, running the error checker, or generating diagnostic or FMECA studies. Nth-order dependencies will inevitably be wrong until functional propagation is re-enabled—at which time, net functions will be updated for the entire design (for large designs, this may take a while!).
