Nested Test Sets

Feature Description

Test sets can be created within other test sets, thereby providing greater flexibility in organizing  stratified (closely related) test definitions within eXpress.

Create Nested Test Set

1. Create Nested Test Set
Use this to Select a New Nested Test Set

When a New Nested Test Set is desired, select an existing Test Set into which the new Nested Test Set is to be created by using the Right hand mouse button. The window shown  to the left will open allowing the Analyst to select  "New Tests Set (Nested)" with the Left hand mouse button to open the window shown below and name the new Test Set.

Nested Test sets can be treated as any other test set (Usage etc.)

Test sets can be nested any number of levels for any reason. In the example at right, there are three main test sets: “BIT”, “Manual Testing” and “Symptoms”. Five additional test sets have been nested within these three main test sets. Notice that test sets that containing only other test sets are colored white in the Explorer Tree (regardless of the Usage setting on these test sets).

In this example, a single test definition (“Connectivity Test”) has been included in the main test set “BIT” (which also contains three nested test sets for the various BIT types). Because it contains at least one non-nested test, the “BIT” folder is now color-coded to reflect the usage setting for that test set.

These two cases will also display differently when selecting test candidates in a diagnostic study. Here are how the Detection Candidates lists appear for each of the two examples shown above:

Case 1
Case 2

In the first list, the “BIT” test set is only included as a folder containing the three nested test sets. In the second list, however, the “BIT” test set is listed separately within the “BIT” folder. This allows the Analyst to separately control whether or not the non-nested tests in the “BIT” test set (in this case, the “Connectivity Test”) should be allowed for Fault Detection.

Nested Tests will appear in Diagnostics as Shown to the right. For this example the nest Test Set Usage was marked Isolation only

Note: In this example the Special Test Set Usage is marked for both Detection and Isolation. This allows the nested test sets to be individually marked.

Also note that the test set is white indicating it has no individual tests in it (Just Nested Test Sets). If a test is put into this folder in addition to the Nested Test sets the Folder will then assume the color of its Usage setting.
