Design State Usage

Feature Description

The Design State Usage setting allows the Analyst to specify whether a design state is to be used locally (in test definitions within the same design), hierarchically (as a hierarchical state in an upper-level design), or both. The Analyst can also set the design state usage to "Unused", in which case the design state will be ignored. A design state's Usage can be specified either in Grid View or on the design state Details panel.

Design states whose Usage is set to "Local only" or "Unused" are not inherited as hierarchical states. This not only reduces the total number of state configurations available in an upper-level design, but also reduces the overall number of output functions on the upper-level assembly (for a discussion of how output functions are created on assemblies with hierarchical states, refer to the topic "Output Functions and Hierarchical States").

How To Specify the Usage for One or More Design States (using Grid View)

1
In the Explorer Tree, select the design state for which the usage is to be changed.

Alternative: Design state usage can be modified for all design states by invoking Grid View with the top-level "DESIGN STATES" folder selected (or with nothing selected).
2
Click on the Grid View icon on the View toolbar.
3
If necessary, select "Design States" from the Contents Type drop-box on the Grid Control panel.
4
Enable "Design State Details" on the Grid Control panel.
5
Select the design state usage in the Usage column in the grid. (Note: the setting can be copied from one design state to other rows in the column so that a batch of design states can all be easily set to the same setting).

How to Specify the Usage for a Design State (using Panels)
